How to choose pyjamas: fabric, length and fit
Cotton can feel very different from one pair of pyjamas to another. Look at the weave, surface and fit, not just the fibre.

Two pairs of pyjamas can both be cotton and still feel quite different. One has a brushed surface; the other, a crisp texture. The fibre is only the beginning. When choosing pyjamas, consider three things: how you want the fabric to feel, how much coverage you prefer and how the set should fit.
Start with the pyjamas you already like
Try to identify why your favourite pair works. Is it the soft surface, room across the shoulders or a waistband you barely notice? Think about what you would change, too. If a set feels too warm, a larger size is not necessarily the answer. If the waistband bothers you, a different pattern will not solve it.
Flannel: for a brushed feel
Flannel is worth considering if you enjoy a brushed texture against your skin. Oslo pyjamas are made from 100% organic cotton with a brushed twill weave. The product description highlights the fabric's insulating quality and suitability for the colder months.
Treat that as a starting point, not a fixed rule about seasons. Your bedroom temperature, duvet and personal preferences matter too. If you tend to feel warm at night, compare another fabric before choosing flannel simply because it is winter.
Poplin: for a crisp texture
Innsbruck pyjamas are made from 100% organic cotton poplin. The product description highlights the fabric's crisp texture. They are worth considering if you prefer that feel to a brushed surface.
Salzburg pyjamas offer another design in 100% organic cotton. Both designs have a pyjama collar, chest pocket and contrast piping, with an elasticated waist and drawstring on the trousers. Look at the photographs and details of your chosen variant rather than relying on the design's name alone.
Cotton sateen is not silk
A satin or sateen description does not replace the fibre composition. The term describes a weave, not necessarily the fibre. Rome pyjamas, for example, are made from 100% organic cotton in a sateen weave. They have woven stripes and contrast piping and are described as lightweight.
Rome is worth exploring if you would like lightweight pyjamas with a classic look. It is a cotton design, not a silk one.
Long or short?
Choose length according to the coverage you prefer, not just the calendar. A long set may appeal if you wear your nightwear beyond the bedroom. A short set is worth considering if you prefer less fabric around your legs.
Rome Short Pyjamas use the same type of striped cotton sateen as the long Rome design. This gives you a way to compare lengths within one range. Always check the details and photographs of the two versions you are considering.
Assess the fit in motion
Nightwear needs to fit beyond the moment you stand in front of a mirror. Use the design's sizing information and try the following when assessing a set:
- Sit down. Notice whether the waistband feels tight or the trousers pull across your thighs.
- Reach forwards. The top should not restrict normal movement across your back and shoulders.
- Bend your legs. Check for the room you want around your knees and hips.
- Adjust the drawstring. On designs with both elastic and a drawstring, the waist should feel comfortable without having to tie it tightly.
Do not choose a size based on an assumption about shrinkage. Follow the care label in the individual garment instead: the same fibre does not always mean the same care instructions.
Choose in the right order
Begin with the feel of the fabric. Then choose a long or short design, and use the sizing information to assess fit. Colour and pattern become the final personal choice, rather than the only one you make. Explore all pyjamas and compare the designs that suit your preferences.
